3-Way Moneyline in Hockey (60-Minute Line)

Enter the three regulation prices to see the margin, the fair chance of each result and the matching moneyline. Below: what a regulation tie does to your bet and how often it happens.

Example
Home in 602.1546.6% fair
Tie4.6221.6% fair
Away in 603.1531.8% fair

About 22 games in 100 like this are tied after 60 minutes. A 60-minute bet on either team loses all of them, so it pays more: home 2.15 instead of 1.74 on the moneyline.

What it does

When a team trails by one goal late, it pulls its goalie. Fitted to two NHL seasons: the leader then scores 22% of the time and the trailer ties it 19% of the time. This brings ties after 60 minutes and one-goal results in line with real games. Off = plain Poisson.

BetWith OT/SO60 minutes
Home1.742.15
Tie−4.62
Away2.353.15

Model: goals in 60 minutes follow a Poisson pattern fitted to your moneyline and total (expected goals home 3.37, away 2.88). Margin removed in proportion. Overtime and shootout treated as a coin flip; empty-net adjustment on.

How it is calculated

Moneyline = 60-minute win + tie × share of overtime/shootout wins. With a coin flip: home moneyline = home in 60 + tie ÷ 2.

Moneyline → 3-way needs the chance of a tie, which the moneyline does not show. We take it from a Poisson model fitted to the moneyline and total (with the empty-net adjustment if it is on).

Home wins in regulation2.40 (+140)1 ÷ 2.4040.6%
Tie after regulation (X)4.20 (+320)1 ÷ 4.2023.2%
Away wins in regulation2.70 (+170)1 ÷ 2.7036.1%

The three chances by price add up to 102.5%. The extra 2.5% is the margin. Fair chance removes it. More in the margin calculator.

3-way to moneyline

Moneyline chance = fair home win + fair tie × home share of overtime and shootout wins

Example: 40.6% + 23.2% × 50% = 52.3%. With a 50% split, the fair moneyline is 1.91 (−109).

60-minute line vs moneyline

60-minute line (3-way)

  • Three results: home win, tie, away win
  • Settled at the end of regulation
  • A regulation tie loses home and away bets
  • Team prices are higher: the tie is a separate result, so each team's chance is smaller
  • The margin is spread over three prices

Moneyline (2-way)

  • Two results: home or away
  • Overtime and the shootout decide a tied game
  • No tie option to pick
  • Team prices are lower: each team also wins some overtime games
  • Names vary: PROLINE's Draw No Bet (aka Moneyline) is void on a draw. Check the rules

Questions

What is a 3-way moneyline in hockey?

A bet on the result at the end of regulation with three options: home win, tie, away win. Overtime and the shootout are not counted.

What happens to my 60-minute line bet if the game goes to overtime?

The result is a tie. Home and away bets lose, and tie bets win. Goals in overtime or the shootout do not change the result.

Why are 3-way prices higher than moneyline prices?

The tie is a separate result with its own chance, so each team's chance to win in regulation is smaller. In the example, home at 2.40 in regulation matches a fair moneyline of 1.91, because the home team also wins some overtime games.

Does PROLINE count overtime in hockey?

It depends on the market. Unless stated otherwise, PROLINE settles on regular time. Hockey team or match markets with no stated timeframe include overtime and shootouts. Read the market name on your ticket.

How is the 60-minute line different from the puck line?

The puck line gives one team a goal handicap, such as ±1.5. The 60-minute line has no handicap and adds a tie option. See puck line math.
